Carl “Scooter” Simmons IV, age 37, of Crown Point, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love that will never be forgotten. Scooter was a vibrant soul whose presence filled every room, and his passing has created a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Scooter is survived by his parents, Carl Simmons III and Cindi (Larry) Brookshire; his siblings, Samantha Dickens, Patrick Simmons, Brianna Tellez, and Tommy Reynolds; his beloved nieces and nephews, Rylie, Gavin, Harper, Rowyn, Halen, Hazel, and Aiyana; and his grandmother, Arema Hinkle. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Russell Simmons.

Known affectionately as “Scooter,” he was truly loved by everybody. His infectious smile, warm heart, and unforgettable personality made him someone people were instantly drawn to. Whether you knew him as a family member, friend, coworker, or customer, Scooter left a lasting impression through his kindness, humor, and genuine care for others.

Scooter was a proud member of the Slackers Car Club, where he built lifelong friendships and shared his passion for cars and community. Professionally, he was recognized as NWI’s Best Bartender at Tavern on Main, a title that reflected not only his talent behind the bar but also his ability to make everyone feel welcome, heard, and valued. For Scooter, it was never just about the drinks — it was about the people, the stories, and the connections he built night after night.

His family remembers him as someone who loved deeply, laughed loudly, and gave freely of himself. He was the kind of person who showed up, stood up for others, and made life brighter simply by being in it. Scooter had a rare gift for making people feel like they mattered, and that gift will continue to live on in the memories shared by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 31st, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM, with a funeral service beginning at 6:00 PM, all at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 604 E. Commercial Ave., Lowell, IN 46356. Cremation will follow the service.
