It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kurt Pfotenhauer, a respected leader in the title and mortgage industries and a cherished member of the First American family. Kurt’s career was defined by service, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
Over the course of many years, Kurt served in key leadership roles that helped shape industry policy, strengthen professional relationships, and advance First American’s mission. His influence extended well beyond the company through his active involvement with organizations such as the American Land Title Association (ALTA), the Housing Policy Council, and the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). Through these roles, Kurt played a meaningful part in guiding conversations that impacted the housing and financial services sectors nationwide.

While Kurt was admired for his professional accomplishments, those closest to him knew him best for his character. He led with humility, compassion, and a genuine concern for others. Colleagues often described him as thoughtful, approachable, and generous with both his time and wisdom. He had a rare ability to make people feel heard, respected, and supported, no matter their role or background.
Above all, Kurt’s greatest joy came from his faith and his family. He spoke often and proudly of his wife, Nancy, and of their children and grandchildren, who were the center of his world. His devotion to them shaped the way he lived, worked, and served others, and it was evident in every part of his life.
Kurt’s passing leaves a profound void for his family, friends, colleagues, and the many individuals whose lives he touched through his leadership and kindness. While he will be deeply missed, his legacy of service, integrity, and compassion will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
